Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

A refrigerant is a liquid that is stored in your AC coils, which help cool and dehumidify the indoor air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 due to its destructive impact to the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Olathe because it’ll help make your system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was built prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately out of production. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Polestar Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. Additionally, steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
