Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We stress preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment constantly, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also refers to checking your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system working smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Now is the perfect time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A guaranteed way to instigate a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that is built up on your filter can force your whole system to work harder than it should to keep you cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can increase your energy costs and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The reason for an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your residence. The older a filter gets, the less efficient it is in catching things like dust and mold that can impact the health and comfort of your home, which is even more critical if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring coming up, pollen and mold are especially expected to be hanging around and you don’t want them moving in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help you breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Examine your system or current air filter provider for guidance on how frequently you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Polestar Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, we advise an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to change your air filter?
